MAHEC is accepting candidates for Medical Auditor to support its mission by completing internal quality assessment reviews on Care Provider coding and building relationships to educate and foster accurate, timely, and consistent coding. The role involves auditing medical coding including pre-billing audits of outpatient, inpatient, and surgical records, collaborating with Clinical Business Office leadership to improve coding accuracy, developing audit plans, performing procedure audits, providing technical guidance and education to providers, reviewing claim denials, and developing quality audit reports. The position requires staying current with coding, compliance, and billing requirements and facilitating external audits. The role also includes provider and learner education on coding practices, orientation of new residents, responding to coding inquiries, and serving as a resource for accurate and ethical coding standards. Key competencies include communication, decision making, healthcare knowledge, interpersonal skills, organizational values, and problem solving. Advanced computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite are required; Allscripts PM/EMR Pro software experience is preferred. Minimum qualifications include two years of medical coding/auditing experience, proficiency with ICD-10, CPT, and modifiers, and certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Preferred qualifications include three or more years of experience, FQHC experience, and Allscripts software experience. Desired certifications include Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) and Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC). The position is hybrid with 50-60% onsite work in Asheville, NC, and offers a full Total Rewards package including healthcare, pet insurance, and PTO.
