Tax Manager Public Accounting Houston, TX | Full-Time | Hybrid Schedule (Mon/Tues/Thurs in office)
$115,000 - $150,000 (based on experience)

U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents only About the Role:HireNow Staffing is seeking a seasoned Tax Manager with a solid background in public accounting and hands-on tax preparation. This is an ideal opportunity for a tax professional who thrives in fast-paced environments and is ready to take ownership of complex client portfolios. This hybrid role balances technical execution with mentorship, team leadership, and client-facing responsibilities.We 're looking for someone with a deep understanding of ASC 740 (tax provisions) and a proactive mindset who can guide mid-sized to large clients through tax planning, compliance, and reporting cycles. Key Responsibilities: Tax Engagement & Client Management

• Lead multiple tax engagements from start to finish, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
• Prepare and review individual, partnership, and corporate tax filings with a focus on middle-market and SEC-registered businesses.
• Provide quarterly and year-end tax planning guidance to clients.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships as a trusted advisor.

Technical Tax Leadership

• Prepare and review ASC 740 tax provisions, including deferred tax calculations and disclosures.
• Oversee technical research on complex tax issues and ensure proper application.
• Leverage tax software tools to streamline deliverables and documentation.

Team Oversight & Practice Development

• Mentor and train junior staff on tax strategies, compliance, and best practices.
• Manage budgets, billing, and workflow timelines across engagements.
• Support leadership in scaling the tax practice and improving internal processes.

Must-Have Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in public accounting with active recent tax preparation work.
• Expertise in corporate and partnership taxation and ASC 740 compliance.
• CPA license in good standing.
• Strong project management and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to guide a team and interact confidently with clients.

Preferred (Not Required):

• Experience with Big 4, national, or regional accounting firms.
• Proficiency in tax software (ProSystem fx Tax, Engagement, CCH, RIA, BNA).
• Master's degree in accounting, Taxation, or Law.
• Business development experience or interest in growing a tax practice.

Education:

• Required : Bachelor's in accounting or a closely related field.
• Preferred : Advanced degree in Taxation, Accounting, or Law.
